Both Legs Below Knee Prosthesis
What started as a way to stay fit soon became a passion for running.
In 2012, Shalini Saraswathi’s life changed overnight. A rare bacterial infection left her as a quadruple amputee following the loss of her limbs. Faced with unimaginable adversity, Shalini embraced her new reality and began using prosthetics, determined to reclaim her independence.
What started as a way to stay fit soon became a passion for running. After completing the TCS 10K, Shalini was hooked. She trained hard and went on to become a National Para Athlete, winning gold and silver at the National Para Games and holding the Asian record as the fastest woman on blades in the T62 category. “Running changed my life. From being nobody in sports to being able to run for my country has been absolutely life-changing.”
When it was time for new prosthetics, Shalini turned to Rise Bionics. “I’ve known about Rise for years, so when I needed new legs, I gave them a try,” she explains. “This time, instead of the traditional POP mold, they used a digital scan, and it was spot on right from the start, with only a few minor adjustments.”
The entire process wasn’t just someone telling me what to do; we sat down, discussed my needs, and explored different options that suited my high activity level,” she explains. “It was a very inclusive experience, and everything—from the fitting to the final adjustments—happened seamlessly.”
Now a part of the Rise Bionics team, Shalini continues to inspire others with her incredible resilience and drive. For her, every step forward is not just about walking, but running toward a future full of possibilities.
